Assoc General Counsel under Staff Positions, External Applicants
Job
Description:The Associate General Counsel is responsible
for providing a high level of professional legal service by representing and
advising the Arizona Board of Regents and Arizona State University on a broad
range of issues including intellectual property, licensing (including
software), business law, education law,procurement law, public law, knowledge and research enterprise
development, and other legal matters. This position will concentrate primarily
on supporting ASU's business activities, particularly online education
including delivery and regulatory matters.Provides advice relating to online education, intellectual property,
licensing, complex business transactions global operations and other local,
state, federal and ABOR regulations or policies impacting Arizona State
University. Assists with the development of educational training programs for
administrators, faculty, and staff. Interacts regularly with senior level
administration and with state, local, and federal regulatory offices. Manages a significant and varied
workload including working on multiple unrelated matters concurrently and
completing complex projects both independently and with direction.
Utilizes excellent judgment and discretion as well as exceptional integrity and
research and communication skills
Minimum
Qualifications:J.D. or L.L.B. degree from an ABA accredited
law school and six (6) years of experience as a practicing attorney, including
experience in the primary practice area(s) designated by the Senior Vice
President and General Counsel. Must be a member in good standing with the State
Bar of Arizona within twelve (12) months of hire.
Desired
Qualifications:
·Experience in the active practice of
law which is current and continuous and with a focus in transactional law, and
includes demonstrated knowledge of intellectual property and regulatory law. (6
years)
·Experience in working in a diverse
and complex environment; structuring, negotiating, and drafting complex transactions and agreements relevant to a complex
public research university as a licensed attorney with active practice;
Demonstrated knowledge of a
wide range of legal issues associated with a complex and entrepreneurial
public university, and of applicable laws and regulations;
Evidence of effective verbal
and written communication skills;
·Evidence of being licensed to
practice law in the State of Arizona or eligible for admission to the State Bar
of Arizona or registration as in-house counsel in Arizona with admission or
registration to occur no later than 12 months from date of hire.
