NATURE OF WORK: Performs professional legal work conducting preliminary and formal court hearings on civil traffic offenses, misdemeanors, orders of protection, injunctions against harassment and juvenile offenses in the Chandler Municipal Court. Duties of the Court Commissioner require the exercise of considerable independent judgment in managing the docket, ruling on motions, and adjudicating the cases. Individuals in this classification are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Presiding Magistrate. Work is performed in accordance with the law and is subject to review by a higher court through an appeal. Court Commissioners preside over civil traffic violations, juvenile violations, orders of protection and injunction against harassment hearings, and other matters assigned.
